Keynote Speaker: Dr Kevin Kirby

Dr. Kirby is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Biomechanics at the California School of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Kirby has had a full time podiatric biomechanics and surgical practice in Sacramento, California for 32 years.

Guest Speaker:  Kade Paterson

Kade will present ‘Associations between foot biomechanics and knee function across the lifespan: implications for foot-based interventions for common knee problems.’

Kade will provide an overview of his group’s research on knee and foot biomechanics of healthy young adolescents, and adults with foot and knee pain and pathology. He will begin by presenting their latest research on the developmental biomechanics of girls at risk of knee injury, and the influence of common footwear on knee biomechanics during jumping and running. Next, Kade will discuss the association between foot biomechanics, pain and knee function relevant to the development and progression of common knee injuries in adults, such as patellofemoral pain and knee osteoarthritis. The session will conclude with a discussion of the clinical implications for footwear design and other foot-based interventions for some of these knee problems.
